The EU-Mozambique Global Gateway Investment Forum, being held in Maputo on November 22-23, marks a significant step in strengthening economic ties between the European Union and Mozambique. EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson’s presence underscores the importance of this event, which is bringing together a wide array of stakeholders, including policymakers, public sector agencies, and investors from both Mozambique and Europe.

The forum is launched as a joint effort by the Mozambican Government, the European Union Delegation in Mozambique, and EuroCam. It aims to explore ways to attract quality investments within the Global Gateway Strategy and diversify trade between Mozambique and the European market. The significance of the forum is highlighted by Mozambique’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Augusto José Moreno, and EU Ambassador Antonino Maggiore, who emphasize its role in assessing Mozambique’s investment and trade prospects, particularly in key sectors such as energy, mining, agri-business, and tourism.

The forum’s agenda is covering 14 discussion panels on crucial sectors like industrialization, energy transition, agriculture, the blue economy, tourism, transport and logistics, and digital connectivity. Its key objectives include highlighting Mozambique’s investment potential for local and EU investors, establishing connections among key economic sectors, providing insights into Mozambique’s business climate, and enabling business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) interactions. Additionally, the forum is showcasing current initiatives in the private and public sectors through an interactive exhibition.

Global Gateway, Europe’s initiative for connecting the world through investments and partnerships, plays a pivotal role in fostering economic growth and creating opportunities for local businesses. In Africa, the first deliverable of Global Gateway is the €150 billion Africa-Europe Investment Package, focused on supporting strong, inclusive, green, and digital recovery and transformation. This package aims to accelerate the green and digital transitions, promote sustainable growth and job creation, strengthen health systems, and improve education and training.

This inaugural EU-Mozambique forum represents a vital step in forging mutually beneficial economic collaborations and sustainable, dependable connections that prioritize people and the planet. It demonstrates the EU’s commitment to implementing initiatives with a transformative impact in Africa and beyond.
